STOP STARVING GAZA has a voice in the quiet SF Outer Richmond

SAN FRANCISCO

Lee Heidhues 3.25.2025

The revulsion at the continuing Israeli onslaught has people speaking out in the quiet outer Richmond District of San Francisco. At the intersection of 36th Avenue and Anza Street all four STOP Signs are emblazoned with a reminder to the neighborhood.

The quiet neighborhood is only one place where the signs of protest can be found. The Financial District and Golden Gate Park are sites of citizen activism decrying the Israeli ruination of Palestine supported wholeheartedly by the American military machine.

The Israeli consulate is downtown at 456 Montgomery Street. Artwork decrying the 18 month Israeli assault against the children, women and men of Gaza has become a Financial District fixture.

Following last week’s Israel assault against Gaza during which at least 400 people, including many women and children perished, security guards at the Israeli Consulate in San Francisco were quick to remove the street art decrying the Israeli war crimes.

Trump self proclaimed “political dissident” takes down America

SAN FRANCISCO

Lee Heidhues 3.18.2025

What I blogged 13 months ago has come to pass. Trump now has all the levers of power at his disposal as he attempts his fascist makeover of America.

The disgraceful Republican Party has totally surrendered any sense of fealty to American democracy.

The hopelessly divided Democrats are tearing each other apart.

The Courts are the only backstop to slow down the march to fascism.

“Canada should respect the law. Stop interfering in China’s sovereignty”

SAN FRANCISCO

Lee Heidhues 3.20.2025

The Chinese government literally has a keep no prisoners when it comes to drug offenses. The government unapologetically kills them.

The world is aghast that the Chinese government has executed four Canadians for drug crimes this year. These people did not receive mercy despite a world wide outcry seeking their freedom.

I know someone who, several years ago, spent six months incarcerated in Beijing for a drug offense. This person was lucky. One morning this person was taken from jail. Transported to the airport and flown back to the United States.

Excerpted from The New York Post 3.20.2025

China executed four Canadian nationals over drug charges earlier this year, prompting strong rebukes from the Western country amidst an already rocky relationship.

China said the Canucks should mind their own business.

“Canada should respect the rule of law and stop interfering in China’s judicial sovereignty,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said, claiming it treated all defendants equally regardless of their nationality.

It is unclear exactly when this year the executions took place, but Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly said Wednesday she and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tried to stop them — and are seeking leniency “for other Canadians that are facing a similar situation,” the Wall Street Journal reported.

The victims were described as “Canadian nationals” who held dual citizenship with China, though China does not recognize dual citizenship.

China treats drug charges with a notoriously heavy hand, issuing lifetime prison sentences for smuggling and sometimes even meting out executions — though they are rarely carried out against Westerners.

Jewish Mexican President Sheinbaum welcomes Palestine Ambassador

SAN FRANCISCO

Lee Heidhues 3.19.2025

Thank goodness America’s neighbor to the south has a President for all of The People.

The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, knows about human rights.

This is a Jewish woman who welcomes the Palestinian Ambassador to her country.

Mexican resident President Sheinbaum has received the Credentials accrediting Nadya Rasheed as Ambassador of Palestine…

Nadya Rasheed, the Palestinian ambassador to Mexico, and Carlos Fazio, a Uruguayan researcher, speak out against the genocide in Gaza during a conference at the Autonomous University of Mexico City. They demand an end to the bombings that the Israeli army carries out for a year in the Palestinian territories in the Gaza Strip following the attack by the Hamas group, which kills more than 40,000 people and injures a large number of people. They consider it to be an act of crimes against humanity, genocide, and ethnic extinction. On December 5, 2024. (Photo by Gerardo Vieyra/NurPhoto via Getty Images)

Brazen acts of free speech. “Speech alone cannot be a crime.”

SAN FRANCISCO

Flying the Hamas flag may be reprehensible to many. Before becoming too outraged don’t forget that the Nazis and the Ku Klux Klan right to brandish the abhorrent swastika is protected speech in America.

Nazi flag waving Americans on the march. Protected free speech.

Excerpted from The San Francisco Chronicle 3.18.2025

“There’s nothing illegal about it,” said San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe.

The First Amendment protects even speech that advocates for unlawful action, said First Amendment Coalition Legal Director David Loy. Speech turns into a crime only when it involves a threat to commit harm, he said.

“Speech alone cannot be a crime,” David Loy said.

A San Carlos resident’s decision to fly a Hamas flag outside their home in recent days has stirred outrage among some residents of the Peninsula city, who said they viewed the flag’s display as an endorsement of terrorism.

Some residents said they reported the flag to federal law enforcement officials and their counterparts in San Mateo County. The flag displays the Islamic oath and creed in white calligraphy on a green background.

Flying the flag is protected under free speech laws, legal experts said. It’s unclear whether the flag, flown atop a pole in front of a house on Crestview Drive on and off in the past two weeks, has triggered any kind of government investigation.

Despite the uproar, experts said the display of the flag amounts to symbolic speech protected under the First Amendment.

Bullying Nazi Trump wields his flatulent Big Stick in Yemen.

SAN FRANCISCO

Lee Heidhues 3.16.2025

The Houthis https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Houthis are definitely a nuisance with their attacks on international shipping. A warlike violation of the law. Still, it’s instructive that Nazi felon Donald Trump goes after a renegade band in the impoverished nation of Yemen https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yemen while bowing down before Vladimir Putin and collaborating with the Russian dictator in the destruction of American ally Ukraine.

Donald Trump has to wield his flatulent Big Stick somewhere.

What more likely place to brandish his Hard On than the hapless people of poverty stricken Yemen. Using the Houthis to threaten Iran https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran in reality is a fulfillment of Trump’s perverted need to show the world he’s a Man.

Trump is the fascist who avoided military service during the American aggression against The People of Vietnam.

The United States will continue to strike Yemen’s Houthi rebels until they end attacks on international shipping, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said on Sunday.

“I want to be very clear, this campaign is about freedom of navigation and restoring deterrence,” Hegseth said in an interview for the Fox Business broadcaster.

The bully Trump assaults Yemen

“The minute the Houthis say, ‘We’ll stop shooting at your ships, we’ll stop shooting at your drones,’ this campaign will end. But until then, it will be unrelenting,” he added.

US President Donald Trump, posting on social media, also vowed to “use overwhelming lethal force” to end the Houthi attacks.

“To all Houthi terrorists, YOUR TIME IS UP, AND YOUR ATTACKS MUST STOP, STARTING TODAY. IF THEY DON’T, HELL WILL RAIN DOWN UPON YOU LIKE NOTHING YOU HAVE EVER SEEN BEFORE!” he wrote.

Trump added a warning to Iran, demanding that Tehran “immediately” end its support for the rebel group.

Liz Heidhues – Guest Blogger – 3.16.2025

The proverb “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure” did not hold true for Donna the Drain.

For several days, a blight of shoes and plastic bags had been discarded at the corner where Donna the Drain is located. No one had poked through the pile to take away anything at all.

The constant rain over the last week had turned the pile of shoes and bags into a sodden mess. It was polluting the corner where I, as an SFPUC volunteer, have kept Donna the Drain free of pollutants and trash since 2017.

Liz social media message to the San Francisco ‘311’ hotline – 3.13.2025

I noticed the ugly mess as I walked home from my class at Tat Wong Kung Fu Academy on Tuesday. But I waited two days before reporting it to the City.

This morning as I hustled down the hill towards St. Thomas the Apostle Church for Sunday service, I saw a miracle had transpired. The trash was gone! The corner was clean! The upshot. I wouldn’t have to clean it myself and lug it up our steep hill to our trash can.

As I walked down the hill towards St. Thomas, I saw a miracle had occurred. The mess was gone!

Who had performed this miracle? A DPW open bed truck, carrying an assortment of discarded battered possessions – broken chairs, ladders, an ironing board and more – was pulling up to the corner. A smiling city worker jumped out of the driver’s seat. “I’m so glad to see you,” I said.

We greeted one another as he pulled an iPad out of his pocket. The City worker, who undoubtedly sees plenty of trash, told me, “I wouldn’t want to see this on my corner either.” He then pulled up the screen shot of the ‘X’ post I had transmitted to ‘311’ three days earlier. His up to date technology had chronicled a record of my communication. The City had missed its deadline of responding within 48 hours but it had taken action. The City came out. I was gratified by the City’s high level of service.

‘311’ response to Liz

Out here in the countryside, junk abandoned on the corners often lingers for days. When the City worker told me “We rarely get calls from people out here”, not only was he explaining why DPW was late in responding, he was also affirming we live by the old proverb in my west side neighborhood. What we consider worthless could be highly prized by someone else.

Liz Heidhues has been caring for Donna the drain since 2017, as soon as she saw the Adopt a Drain program advertised on a San Francisco Public Utilities Commission calendar she picked up from a local store. As a runner and a cyclist without a car, she said she was always encountering flooded intersections, so her motivation to adopt the drain was to keep her intersection from becoming flooded. She looked online and saw the drain on her corner was available, and she’s been caring for it ever since. https://www.sfgate.com/local/article/Adopt-a-Drain-program-SF-16641794.php

Nazi Trump burns Voice of America. “Massive gift to USA enemies”

UPDATE

Lee Heidhues 3.20.2025

Wall Street Journal editorial – 3.20.2025

The reaction to Nazi Felon Trump’s dismantling of Voice of America has been Swift. Regrettably, Trump will get away with this blatant censorship. And there’s more to come.

A headline from Trump’s first term in 2017. I knew eight years ago it would get worse.

Chinese state media revel in demise of Voice of America, Radio Free Asia

Shutdown of US-funded news outlets ends more than 80 years of uncensored news broadcasts in China.

Lee Heidhues 3.15.2025

Step by step the felon Nazi Donald Trump is destroying the free press. Just like Adolf Hitler did in Germany shortly after he became Chancellor in 1933. Are books next?

On April 6, 1933, the Nazi German Student Association’s Main Office for Press and Propaganda announced a nationwide initiative “against the un-German spirit”, climaxing in a literary Säuberung, or cleansing, by fire.[2] Local chapters of the group were charged with the distribution of literary blacklists that included Jewish, Marxist, Socialist, anti-family, and anti-German literature and planned grand ceremonies for the public to gather and dispose of the objectionable material.[3]

In Berlin, the German Student Union organized the celebratory book burnings that took place on May 10, 1933, on a dreary, rainy evening.[2] 40,000 people crowded into the Opernplatz (as it was then known) as 5,000 German students proceeded past them, holding burning torches to ceremonially ignite the pile of books seized for the event.[4] Joseph Goebbels, Germany’s Reich Minister of Propaganda, spoke at the event, declaring that “the era of exaggerated Jewish intellectualism is now at an end… and the future German man will not just be a man of books… this late hour [I] entrust to the flames the intellectual garbage of the past.”[3][5] Thirty-four additional book burnings took place across Germany that month.[3]

The head of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, which started broadcasting into the Soviet bloc during the Cold War, called the cancellation of funding “a massive gift to America’s enemies.”

Nazis burning Books – May 10, 1933

“The Iranian ayatollahs, Chinese communist leaders, and autocrats in Moscow and Minsk would celebrate the demise of RFE/RL after 75 years,” its president, Stephen Capus, said in a statement.

Hundreds of reporters and other staff at VOA, Radio Free Asia, Radio Free Europe and other outlets received a weekend email saying they will be barred from their offices and should surrender press passes, office-issued telephones and other equipment.

Trump, who has already eviscerated the US aid agency and Education Department, on Friday issued an executive order listing the US Agency for Global Media as among “elements of the federal bureaucracy that the president has determined are unnecessary.”

Kari Lake, a firebrand Trump supporter and former Arizona news anchor who was put in charge of the media agency after she lost a US Senate bid, wrote — in an email to media outlets she supervises — that federal grant money “no longer effectuates agency priorities.”

A White House press official, Harrison Fields, took a much less legalistic tone in a post on X, simply writing “goodbye” in 20 languages, a sarcastic jab at VOA’s multilingual coverage.
